About Ruth
Physically active from childhood, Ruth’s experience with movement began with dancing (known as flat footing) on the porch when her grandparents played old time country music. Ballet, tap, gymnastics, and marching band flags and rifles rounded out her activities as a youth. As a young adult, Ruth began running, weight lifting, and participating in various types of aerobics. After a great experience with a personal trainer and participating in obstacle course races, Ruth became a Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine. Ruth was then introduced to the Pilates method of exercise and found that her life experiences, varied educational background, and interests could be combined as a Pilates Teacher. Ruth completed teacher training for comprehensive Pilates through Balanced Body. Ruth also holds a B.S. in Biology and a M.S. in Counseling.
Through her own experiences with hyper mobility, scoliosis, grief and depression, and an autoimmune disease, Ruth is passionate about encouraging others to fight for their health. This includes finding a way to move their bodies that is healthy and energizing and using food as medicine. Ruth believes that being healthy encompasses the whole person, including one’s mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual health. Ruth also enjoys walking, swimming, dancing, reading, volunteer ministry, and being outdoors.
